*.. in the beginning of this month, I'd completed the script of a full length play By Me You’ll Never Know; it is the play on race I'd ever hoped to endeavor writing, and which held off expressing itself -till 65, it seems. Across years of gestating a desire, I had no specific route into a kind of conversation that I wanted to have -with theatre, black culture, family history, and -what formed itself as, content of the 'undiscussed'.
The play was no ease emerging, but it did press into its language and landscape and onto the page (so to speak), in just 4 months or so...
I tidied it through a few iterations, and then-
*Towards the end of January.. mid-February, I began sharing it within a close net of support & colleagues.. Central in this, I shared a copy with Derek Goldman, Co-Director of The Laboratory for Global Performance & Politics, who had, in December 2019, hosted a table reading of my play Reconstruction at Theater Communications Group, which had been directed by Tamilla Woodard.
